We want to welcome Harriet Kanyunyuzi who began her employment with us today. She is an answer to prayer and will be taking the position of a social worker. We have been without a social worker for the past few months, despite it being a Tanzanian regulation.  It was not for the lack of applications that we took our time in filling this role but rather for financial reasons. Harriet is happy to be here despite our conservative wage to her. Harriet is a local woman of 29 years. She is a single mother of An-wei, a three year old  [ Read More ]

Tumaini’s grandparents came to take him home from Cradle of Love today. It’s so wonderful when a child can return to his own family, even if it is to an extended family member. Tumaini’s mother died shortly after giving birth. His grandparents are very pleased to have him home with them. Saying goodbye to the nannies is very difficult. Tumaini is such a sweet, sensitive and caring little boy. He loved to be cuddled and often just laid with is head on you. We miss you already gorgeous boy and look forward to your visit in a few months time.

Shortly after lunch today we had another baby boy arrive. Mustakim is 2 1/2 months old. Sadly his mother abandoned him a few days ago leaving him with his father. Unfortunately, his father is very poor and is unable to provide the necessary care for his young son. Cradle of Love gladly accepted him into our care, increasing our nursery numbers to 7!. Mustakim will return to his father and his village once he is able to eat solid food and is not so dependant on special care. This is usually by the age of 2 years old. Welcome  [ Read More ]

A very hungry, Edgar arrived at Cradle of Love Baby Home this afternoon. He was Born into a very poor family in the village of Kimandolu. After his birth, his mother became mentally unstable and abandoned him with his elderly grandmother. She has no home or even a mat to sleep on and has done the best she can for the past 2 days, feeding Edgar with only sugared water.  His father does not have a job and is also in no position to care for his son. Fortunately, a neighbour assisted this family to seek help through social  [ Read More ]

How wonderful it is when a baby returns home! Today we bid farewell to our smallest and youngest baby in the nursery, Esther. Esther’s father is to be transferred to Dar es Salaam for work and he could not bear to be so far away from his new daughter. He spoke with enormous gratitude when he thanked us for taking such good care of her and promises to visit again. We presented him with a bag of goodies to get him through the next few days. We included clothing, a blanket, nappies, a bottle and baby formula. Esther’s father  [ Read More ]
