Many of you will be sending Holiday greetings to friends and family this month. Why not suggest that they join the Cradle family by becoming a monthly donor this coming year!  There is no better gift than to help a child.    The staff and volunteers of Cradle continue to do their best for the babies, but we need your financial support. Take a look at how well Noel is doing. He is learning to stand, loves to play with the legos, and laughs out loud when with his personal caregiver. Cosmos lights up the room with his amazing smile!   [ Read More ]

Yesterday (Sunday) we had our annual visit from one of our “little” girls. Abigail was testing HIV positive when she was born and so the Lutheran orphan home Nkoaranga called us to come and bring her to Cradle.  (She was only carrying her mother’s antibodies though) Abi was always strong and healthy, with a mop of soft curly hair. Quite a serious baby though. She was one of the nine who were the first residents of our lovely big house! She is now nearly 7 years old and is taller than my 9 year old! Her dad is tall too  [ Read More ]

Noni ,one of consistent, large donors, lost her mom recently. In lieu of flowers, money was contributed for Cradle. I know Noni personally, although I never met her mom. But one thing I can say about Esther is that she raised a wonderful daughter who has compassion for others!  Below are excerpts from her memorial service. ESTHER BUCHMILLER April 30, 1923-November 3, 2012 Eulogy by Craig Ellison Son-in-Law Esther was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother , aunt, and friend to we assembled here. On Sunday and Monday we had men digging footings for the Crawlers room porch extension. Yesterday they pour the foundation, and hopefully will have the tiles on soon. The welder has measured for the “fencing” around the porch. The past few days have been glorious weather–hardly a cloud in the sky and the air is so clear! This is the view from just in front of my office. Mt. Meru is spectacular. Did you know that it last erupted in 1910? And it has erupted 4 times since records have been kept. It used to be higher than Kilimanjaro. Just  [ Read More ]

This morning our adorable 7 month old twin girls went home with their dad and aunt. Upendo is a bit concerned at them leaving so young, but she will make regular visits to their home to be sure they are doing well. When they came to us, they were just tiny-but now they are chubby and active little girls. We will certainly miss them, but are happy they are reunited with their birth family.

At long last! This little boy gets his forever family. They have visited him a lot during the past four months and during the last month, they would take him out with them for the day on the weekend. So, he knows his parents and grandparents already. Even so, he KNEW there was something different about him going this time and shed a few tears. Farewell, and we know you will have a wonderful life!

Some weeks ago I was visited by someone from Kennedy House School here in Usa River. She said the school had raised some money for Cradle by having a “jeans” day. This is when each student pays a little money to NOT wear the school uniform for the day. In some countries they refer to it as mufti day. Well they didn’t make an appointment so I forgot all about it. Then late this morning two carload of children arrived, with baskets of fruit, veggies, finger millet flour etc. It was so very lovely of them.                     The toddlers were  [ Read More ]
