This morning a father came here with his 9 month old baby girl. He said that the mother had just walked out on them both a couple months ago for no apparent reason.  He has been trying to care for Sarah, but it has become too much for him, and he was told about Cradle. She appeared to be ill, so we sent him to see a Doctor and also get a letter from social welfare. He returned early in the afternoon with the letter and a prescription. We got food for Sarah and struggled to feed her. After observing  [ Read More ]

Today Kezia, Anika, Maxi and Maya put on a small party for all the children who had birthdays in July. Rehema, Amity, Catherine, Zawadi and George. The last two actually missed out on the celebration, as they were napping.     In the afternoon the ladies took Clara to visit her brother James, who is living at Happy Watoto. It has been a long time since they have seen each other, so didn’t really remember. Clara will be graduating there later, so we want her to renew her acquaintance with her sibling and get to know Happy Watoto.

A couple months ago–at Mother’s Day–an organization called Hidden Baby was having people nominate a woman they thought was admirable. A lady who helps us in Australia, nominated me, because of Cradle. I believe there were five women selected and I was one of them. A group from Help International volunteered to teach our staff First Aid this week. Most of our staff have already had the classes, but this was a good refresher course, and some were new staff so needed to know what to do in emergencies. The first session was on Monday morning and the next one is on Thursday. The staff and volunteers had a great time learning and all the staff received a certificate of completion.

On Wednesday July 4th, Josephine finally got to go home with her adoptive mother and her auntie. Her mom, Riikka live in the Southern part of Tanzania, and she had been staying here at the cottages, bonding with Josephine until she received the final papers to begin fostering. I don’t know how to say “congratulations” in Finnish, but we are very happy that Josephine has a mom!

I have never seen such a turn out of people to welcome home on of our children! They just kept coming and coming. Seems they rented a big truck so that they could bring all the relatives and maybe half the village. Patrick’s dad is elderly–probably looks older than he actually is however–with  most of his teeth missing, but a huge smile. He was very happy to be taking his son home. Patrick, on the other hand, didn’t know any of these people, and cried when his dad held him.  I suggested that one of the women should carry  [ Read More ]
