We have a new resident artist!  Rebekkah “Rembrandt” Baumann is painting a mural on the wall of our new isolation room. My husband did the sketches and she is applying the color!  It is looking really great, as you can see.  “Darling it’s better, down where it’s wetter, under the sea!”

Yesterday Victoria went home to her grandparents and aunt. The aunt works for the family who brought us Vicky and they came to take her to the relatives. She didn’t cry, but was clearly confused and upset, as she was breathing fast. Oh how I pray for these little ones when they leave our care! You can see the concerned look on Vicky’s face. On Saturday afternoon my family came over to play with the children on the lawn. It was a beautiful, balmy day. Here are some candid shots of the activities.              [ Read More ]

The directors house is coming along. Andrew, our contractor is really pushing to get things done and he has about 20 men working on it each day. The main plumbing pipes are in and the electrical conduits and places for outlets and lighting. The wood under the eaves is going in and the plastering of the walls, inside and out, is under progress.  The next huge step is to get the second floor built–it will be all hardwood floors. There is still a lot to do before it is liveable, but we have faith that it will happen before we  [ Read More ]

Glory is on of our special project children. She has a large growth on her brain stem area and requires constant care. Through the help of one of our Cradle  Well Wishers, we were able to have a wheelchair made for her and also a cot with a drop-down side for easy access. Today her mom came to pick up the cot, and gave me this photo of Glory in her “chariot”!  She said she likes the chair and it really helps in caring for Glory.

Jacqueline’s mother suffered some mental instability after giving birth to her, so the father brought her here. She turned two on April 2nd, so Upendo (SW) went to visit the family and tell them they needed to bring her home. It always amazes me that you have to go and TELL the family to do this. You would think that they would want their child back as soon as they were able to provide care! Jackie looked so lovely all dressed in blue, however she didn’t want anything to do with her dad, as he seldom, if ever, visited her.  [ Read More ]

Today made up for the slowness of the previous days!  Upendo (SW) told me today that she had a call about two babies ready to pick up from Mt. Meru Hospital today. So I sent Jackie with her, to do the paperwork and  bring them Home. Before they were back, the family of Jacob arrived to take him home. Jacobs father is a deaf mute, but very pleasant. Jacobs mother had run off when he was little and that is how he came to be with us. However, she is back now and says she is ready to care for  [ Read More ]

Yesterday, two uncles of Michael, came and took him home. Dear little boy was quite bewildered at this sudden change and didn’t even want to get his photo taken. Upendo, our social worker, will follow up in a couple weeks to see how he is doing. This morning I caught this picture of all the big kids sitting down and receiving their daily chewable vitamin. Very cute.

Here are the most recent photos of the isolation room.  We are ready to paint and the paint was purchased today. We are planning o putting an underwater scene on one wall for the enjoyment of the children, so we got a turquoise blue paint.   The is a wide overhang on the roof, so we made a nice, tiled porch area so that when the sick kids are feeling better, they can enjoy some fresh air.
