I knew that Jackson was leaving us this week, but was still surprised when a volunteer told me that the folks from Happy Watoto Children’s Home were here to get him. This is the same place that Selemani went to some time back. Poor little Jackson. He knew his life was about to change as he was dressed in his best and people were making a fuss over him. He got scared and did not want to get into the car. I felt so sorry for him, so sent Kezia, our Danish volunteer to go with him and see that  [ Read More ]

Danny and his mother Simfroza have a place to call home now, thanks to a special donor! They are also able to eat and both mother and son are doing well. On April 11th Danny is having another surgery, and as I understand, it is the final one to close his colostomy. With him not having to make a weekly trip to the hospital, his mom will have the time to pursue an income generating activity to support them.

I want each of you who check this website, to take a close look at the sweet faces of our babies!  Let them “speak” to your heart. I realize that times are getting more difficult for everyone–costs are going up for fuel and food and utilities, world-wide. It is affecting us here in Tanzania as well. However, if everyone who reads this appeal, would reach into their hearts and finances and give a monthly amount to our babies, it would help so very much. For the month of March we did not receive enough to meet our expenses, and most  [ Read More ]

This morning the father of Dello called Mama Musa and said he was coming to take him home! Dello turned two on March 7th. He is such a sweet little fella and has a new step-mom and new “half” brother. It was the step mom who encouraged the father to take him home now, so I believe she will be attentive to him.                     Goodbye little man!

Our isolation room is coming along very well. Today they are working on plumbing and electrical. The floor tiles are purchased and ready to go in and they are working on the bathing/changing area. There was this huge old tree by our play area, but it produces big seed pods that are extremely heavy, and will fall off the tree without warning! I decided that this patriarch of a tree was not suitable to be near our babies, so we have had it chopped down and in its place will plant a ficus tree which is fast growing, will provide  [ Read More ]

On Friday March 18th, we were able to take possession of the new washing machine donated to us by a company in Norway, with the air freight donated by another company ! What a huge blessing this is going to be to our laundry crew. Now we won’t have so many clothes getting mildew and ruined, and we can get the day’s laundry done much more quickly. Thank you to Kim, Oystein and Rune and all the other wonderful people who made this possible. Wonderful Gift from Norway

Yesterday we received a beautiful one day old girl. Her mother is 26, healthy and this was her first baby, but for some reason, she walked out of the hospital leaving her baby! (Giving a false name) So we are blessed to have this little lady with us until an adoptive family is found.

On January 2, 2011, a woman went to “answer the call of nature” at a pit latrine in the Arusha Region of Tanzania. There she heard a sound emitting from the hole in the ground that sounded like the cry of a baby. Upon closer investigation, she discovered it was a newborn baby girl, left to die in the filth of the latrine. What a horror! Somehow the woman drew this baby out of the mire and took her to the Regional government hospital. There, the nursing staff had to pull maggots out of the baby’s nose and ears, clean  [ Read More ]

The carpentry shop just delivered our new picnic table! Many volunteers come with a snack or lunch, so I thought they should have a nice place to eat. The table is nestled beneath an alcove of trees that is near the nursery. Today the toddlers tried it out while staff blew bubbles for them.

I have received two offers for sponsorship for Simfroza and her baby Danny! Thanks so very much. She understands that this is only for one year and in the meantime she needs to find something to do to earn money for her little family. Today she came, and Danny was just as smiley and happy as can be–darling little boy!  She had found a room to rent, so I gave her the money for that as well as half the food and transport money for the month.
